Live

it's easier not to be wise
and measure these things by your brain
I sank into Eden with you
alone in the church by and by
I'll read to you here save your eyes
you'll need them your boat is at sea
your anchor is up you've been swept away
the greatest of teachers won't hesitate
to leave you there by yourself chained to fate

I alone love you
I alone tempt you
I alone love you
Fear is not the end of this

I alone love you
I alone tempt you
I alone love you
Fear is not the end of this

it's easier not to be great
and measure these things by your eyes
we long to be here by this resolve
alone in the church by and by
to cradle the baby in space
and leave you there by yourself chained to fate yeah

I alone love you
I alone tempt you
I alone love you
Fear is not the end of this

I alone love you
I alone tempt you
I alone love you
Fear is not the end of this

I alone love you
I alone tempt you
I alone love you

oh no we took it back to far
only love can save us now
all these riddles that you burn
all come running back to you
all these rhythms that you hide
only love can save us now
all these riddles that you burn yeah yeah yeah

I alone love you
I alone tempt you
I alone love you
Fear is not the end of this

I alone love you
I alone tempt you
I alone love you

Dedicated to Kenesha Brown. It's not that I love and tempt you or anything like that but you're the one that sat around the dorm room with me and watched Live Unplugged on MTV back when it was still a station (barely) that meant a darn and made the 90s totally bearable and FUN alternative and rockin.' Love ya babe.

What's funny is that back then I wasn't really into all of that music. Remember I was still in my R&B phase?

But slowly the alternative monster followed me... and before I knew what was happening, it swallowed me whole.

Which reminds me...

Warm sun, feed me up and I'm leery loaded up
Loathing for a change
And I slip some boil away
Swallowed followed, heavy about everything
But my love

Swallowed sorrowed
I'm with everyone and yet not just wanted
to be myself
hey you said that you would love to try some
hey you said you would love to die some
in the middle of a worm on a fish hook
you're the wave you're the wave you're the wave

Swallowed borrowed
Heavy about everything
But my love
Swallowed hollowed
Sharp about everyone
But yourself
Swallowed oh no
I'm with every one and yet not
I'm with everyone and you're not
I'm on everyone and yet
Piss on self-esteem
Forward Busted knee
Sick head
Blackened lungs
And I'm a simple selfish son

Swallowed followed
Swallowed oh no
I'm with everyone and yet not
Got to get away from here
I miss the one that I love a lot
I miss the one that I love a lot

But...

When you caught the Alternative bug---you totally CAUGHT it. I mean in a big way. But the 90s was the decade when Alternative was king. And I actually thought I was being different by not listening to top 40. Go figure.
